Krystle Howald, PT, DPT

I love assisting people to unleash their healing power. My job is to inspire and nurture the well-being of each patient through the restoration of movement.

I founded Empower Movement out of a growing frustration with current services offered in the physical therapy field. After being employed by both a large hospital and an outpatient orthopedic chain, I realized both were run as a profit center and not invested in providing quality care to patients. I no longer wanted my attention to be divided between two to five patients at once, but rather on one. As a therapist, I longed for the freedom to treat patients to aid in their recovery to the best of my ability, not based on numbers of patients seen in a day.

I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Marquette University in 2007. I then headed west to Regis University in Colorado, a school well-known in the physical therapy world for their strength in manual therapy and a hands-on approach.

My personal interests outside of work include fitness, anything that has to do with water: boating, swimming, paddle boarding, and kayaking. I ran track in undergraduate school, so know a little something about compulsive exercising. The clinic hustle is real but the real hustle starts when I get home to my three sweet babes, Brooke, Avery and Camden. Those little ones sure know how to keep my husband Tom and I on our toes!

I want to provide every patient with powerful tools to encourage recovery and meet their goals. Using manual therapy and exercise we will restore efficient function. I love working in a private practice setting because are no barriers to the provision of very effective patient care. My interests lie in the rehabilitation of orthopedic conditions of the spine and upper/lower extremities, as well as pelvic floor rehabilitation for prenatal and postnatal mothers. I have treated pelvic floor conditions in males and females my entire career and particularly enjoy helping individuals to optimize this facet of their health. My advanced training includes dry needling, corrective exercise, joint mobilization/manipulation, myofascial release, and neurodynamic mobilization.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Psychology in 2011 and then from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2014.

Outside of work, my personal interests include spending time with my family, cooking, UW-Badger athletics, traveling (especially to my hometown of St. Paul, MN), recreational running/weight-training, and going to yoga, barre, or CrossFit. My husband Matt and I live in Brookfield with our daughters, Ava and Lucy and black lab, Sally.

After many childhood and sports related injuries, I discovered how important it is to have a physical therapist that is compassionate, hands-on and listens to the patient’s complaints and goals. I have worked in many settings and fell in love with the outpatient private practice setting where I am not restricted by insurance limitations and can see patients one-on-one.

I am passionate about caring for the entire individual, utilizing a full-body approach to treatment that empowers patients to get back to what they love to do. I incorporate dry needling, visceral manipulation, cupping, blood flow restriction training, and rehab Pilates into sessions. I have taken many courses through the Institute of Physical Art to enhance my functional manual therapy skills. More recently, I have enjoyed seeing improvements from treating the vagus nerve on patients with symptoms following COVID, breathing issues, jaw pain, car accidents, post-pregnancy and high stress levels.  My interests lie in the rehabilitation of orthopedic conditions of the spine and upper/lower extremities and helping those who want to return to their desired sport/exercise program. I am enjoying collaborating with local gyms, dentists and healthcare providers to ensure my patients obtain the best care.

I graduated from UW- Eau Claire with a major in Biology and Pre-professional Health and received my doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from UW-Lacrosse in 2017.

My husband, Jordan, and I recently moved to Oconomowoc and enjoy weight lifting, hiking, and traveling.

Jena DeLisle, PT, DPT, CMPT

My passion is in helping others through physical therapy and treating the whole body because let’s face it, everything is connected! I have extensive experience in outpatient orthopedics with a passion for continued learning in areas such as manual therapy, dry needling, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, cupping, and women’s pelvic health. My own personal experience as a mother and postpartum female led me to specialize in pelvic floor physical therapy, allowing me to empower other mothers during this transformative stage in their lives. My compassion and outgoing personality contribute to a positive and supportive environment for all of my patients on their healing journey.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I continued my education at Clarke University in Dubuque, IA and received my Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2012.

Outside of the clinic, I enjoy spending time with my family, participating in outdoor activities ranging from running to kayaking, and most importantly reading a good book with a strong cup of coffee in my hands.

During graduate school I was fascinated with the spine and knew early on that I wanted to pursue a career in this area. I participated in an independent spine study at UW- Research Park Spine Center which solidified my decision to work in this field.  After graduating with a degree in Physical Therapy at UW-Madison, I went to work in a Spine Clinic treating both acute and chronic neck and back pain, while also receiving referrals for vertigo patients. My sweet secretary at the time scheduled a patient with Multiple Sclerosis with me “by accident,” which led to a very unique love of treating both orthopedic back pain in addition to central nervous system disorders leading to core weakness, among other neurological deficits, and secondary back pain. This interest led to me pursuing a certification in treating Multiple Sclerosis. While treating both peripheral and central nervous system deficits contributing to back and neck pain, I began to see the importance of “righting” both the musculoskeletal system as well as the nervous system in all patients before addressing the secondary symptoms.

After 19 years of treating patients, I find that I am the most passionate and most skilled in treating patients with chronic or acute back, neck, and SI joint dysfunction, vertigo due to vestibular dysfunction, and Multiple Sclerosis management. I focus mainly on manual therapy to realign the spine, neuromuscular re-education, neural mobilization, posture and body mechanic education and training and soft tissue mobilization as it relates to treatment of the spine, repositioning techniques and vestibular habituation training for vertigo, and appropriate strengthening, balance training, and energy conservation techniques for those with Multiple Sclerosis.

In addition to my career, I am married to my best friend and have 3 very unique children.  We are always on the go with 2 boys in baseball and basketball and a daughter who loves to dance and ride horses.  We are active in our church and very passionate about leading others in Bible study.  We also love to travel.
